After years of flooring experience an individual may decide to become the person who investigates flooring complaints or failures. It may be a manufacturing defect. It may be an installation error, or a mis-specification of the flooring for the site. It may be a maintenance issue and sometimes, "things just happen".
To ensure the inspector has the necessary knowledge to inspect flooring complaints, the inspector must attend "Inspection Schools" and "Installation training classes" to study and pass industry approved tests to prove his experience and knowledge. After that, the inspector must prove himself to establish he can successfully inspect flooring complaints. I have been successfully inspecting flooring complaints since 1988. My many years in the trade confirms my success and ability to inspect flooring complaints.
In the Spring of 2009, after many visits to their laboratory and consulting with them, I suggested to the Wood Department at North Carolina State University they conduct a class for inspectors.
What happen next was a wonderful experience as the class filled up within a few days.
My responsibility was to arrange the class, invite the inspectors and consult with the professors teaching the class on flooring issues consumers and inspectors see everyday.
The Professors work for NCSU Wood Extension Department working directly with kiln drying operations, lumber yards, flooring manufacturers testing flooring in their certified laboratory.
This year, (2009) I attended their Kiln Drying Operators Training Course, the Engineered Wood Flooring Workshop for Inspectors I arranged, an Advance Engineered Workshop and a Wood ID Class.
In 2010 I arranged another class for concrete substrates flooring is installed over, Wood and Moisture Relationships, and Engineered Advance Class concerning moisture and manufacturing issues.
Advance training by PhD wood scientist has been not only educational but enlightening that will result in helping consumers, contractors and retailers better understand their wood flooring issues.
From these classes the Flooring Inspectors' Educational Guild was started to bring non-bias scientific training to the inspection industry to better serve consumers.
The Guild does not seek approval of the industry, the Guild arranges scientific studies and classes for the truth to be used for the consumers.
The Certificates will be provided as needed to view and confirm certification.
